Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – 21 February, 2025: Homegrown data centre and IT solutions provider Basis Bay and the University of Malaya (UM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch the Basis Bay Data Centre Foundation Certificate, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the data centre industry.

The BBDCFC will not only provide participants with valuable industry exposure but also contribute to the development of a highly skilled and competitive Malaysian workforce,” said Professor Ir Dr Kaharudin Dimyati, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of Universiti Malaya. “This collaboration is not only between industries but also through the involvement of the Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC) from Universiti Malaya. HICoE UMPEDAC's expertise and knowledge will create a more comprehensive curriculum for the value creation of talent skills in data centre areas.”
The BBDCFC, the first of its kind in Malaysia, is a cornerstone program within Basis Bay’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) that provides comprehensive training on data centre management, operations, Infrastructure design, security, sustainability and renewable energy. Developed in collaboration with industry experts, the curriculum will offer a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, including case studies, simulations, and potential visits to state-of-the-art data centres.
Basis Bay's Centre of Excellence aims to be Malaysia's first dedicated data centre training centre provider, offering a comprehensive range of programs and workshops to bridge the skills gap in the sector.
